When her husband, Gary*, was temporarily relocated, Katherine was left in Alabama to manage the family and all the household bills. During his absence, Gary continued to make mortgage payments on their home, but Katherine was saddled with the remaining bills. Though she tried to make each penny stretch as far as possible, oftentimes Katherine had to rely on credit cards to pay utility bills and buy groceries. When Gary returned to Alabama, their income normalized and Katherine was no longer forced to depend on credit cards to cover family necessities. Though she had built only a small amount of debt, Katherine knew that the high interest rates on the credit cards could leave her trapped making minimum payments for the rest of her life.
Gary had used CCCS' Debt Management Plan years before - this time it was Katherine's turn! From Gary's past experience, she knew all about the advantages of the program and quickly scheduled an appointment with Ronda Williams, certified credit counselor with 13 years of experience. On the DMP, not only were Katherine's interest rates reduced, but she was also able to combine each credit card payment into one lump sum amount. Though the DMP is not a debt consolidation program - each account is held separately and distinctly from another - it does allow each client to make one single payment to the CCCS office. That payment is then divided in an appropriate, predetermined amount, and disbursed to each individual creditor by CCCS Staff.
After 3 years and 1 month, Katherine paid off the full amount of her credit card debt, totaling $5,872. Upon completing the plan, Katherine declared, "I've suggested the DMP to lots of people who work with me. I tell them, 'Hey, if you want to get those debts behind you, you've got to get on the DMP! If you don't go ahead and get it out of your way, you won't have the extra money to spend.'"
Congratulations, Katherine! We're so glad we could help you escape from your credit card debts!
